4 Ways To Improve Your Direct Sales Copywriting

Direct Sales CopywritingDirect sales copywriting is a way for you to speak directly to your potential customers.  If you’re not sure exactly what it is, then this article give you four easy ways that you can make quick improvements.

A lot of people do not understand that there are several different styles of copywriting.  When you are trying to sell a product directly to a customer, the writing style is called direct sales copywriting.  This style of writing is different from the way that you would write copy for a pre sell, down sell or an up sell.  If you feel like you could use a few tips to start writing better direct sales copy, then here are four quick ways that you can start improving.

1. Start speaking directly to your potential customers

One of the best secrets to great direct sales copywriting is to speak in the second person point of view.  This is done by speaking directly to the person who is reading.  Use the word ‘you’ as often as you can.  When you’re speaking directly to your potential customer, they will be pulled into your sales copy.

2. Think about your target audience

Who will be reading the copy?  Will it be people of a certain educational background?  Will it be people of a certain age?  Of a certain race?  Try to tailor your copywriting to your target audience.  You can do this by adjusting the language that you use.  For instance, if you are writing copy that will be read by computer programmers, then you should try to include some technical jargon that only computer programmers would really understand.  Don’t take extra time explaining everything that you say.  Assume that your target audience will know technical terms already.  This will also help speak directly to them.

3. Get specific

Any time that you can talk about a very specific event in your copy, it will be to your advantage.  Try to talk about very specific events or challenges that your target audience will face.  For instance, if you are writing a sales page for a golf product, then you may want to write something like ‘Remember the other day when you are out on the course taking that one critical stroke?  The game was on the line and you blew it.  With my new product you can keep that from ever happening again.’ This crude example shows how you can use a specific situation to connect to your audience.  Even though most of your audience probably hasn’t experienced this specific situation within the last few days, they will still be able to connect to it in some way.  Still, there will likely be some that actually have experienced this situation in the last few days – you will be making a big connection to them.

4. Practice, practice, practice

As with any kind of copywriting, you need to practice as much as you can to get any better.  If you do not work to develop your direct sales copywriting skills, you’ll never see any improvement.

Direct sales copywriting can be a very powerful marketing tool if you know how use it correctly.  Follow these four tips to really improve your skills
