Is Banner Advertising Dead?

In the last few years, there has been a growing stigma towards online advertisements.  Many Internet users believe that pop up ads will infect their computers with spyware and adware.  Therefore, many of them avoid clicking on any advertisements at all.  This leads us to the question, ” Is a banner advertising dead?”.  This article will give you a little bit of insight into that question.

If you are involved with Internet Marketing, then you realize that there are tons of different ways to advertise your business online.  The methods of online advertising have changed a lot within the last few years.  However, there are still many methods that remain effective.  One method of advertising, called banner advertising, has been around for as long as most of us can remember.  This leaves many of us to question whether or not banner advertising is still effective.

One of the things that has affected banner advertising the most has been the development of new methods of online advertising.  A good example of a method that has affected banners is called flash banners.  These are a lot like banner advertisements except they are much more dynamic and eye catching.  They have only been in use for the last several years but have still managed to become much more popular and effective.

Something else that has really affected the effectiveness of banner advertising is the stigma towards popup advertisements.  Many Internet users group banner advertisements along popup ads and look at them as a negative thing.  However, back in the heyday of banner advertising many people looked at them as a way to find it useful links to web sites that they might enjoy.

So, is banner advertising still used anywhere effectively?  There are places such forums where banners are still effective.  In fact, any time that you are dealing with experienced Internet users, banner advertising can still be quite cost efficient and effective.  This is because most experienced Internet users, such as Internet marketers, realize that a banner advertisement is not a popup advertisement and will not harm their computer if they click on it; they understand what a banner advertisement is.  Therefore, if you are advertising to a group of Internet marketers, for instance, you will probably have a good amount of success using banners.

There is a another place where banner advertising is still used very effectively.  They are called traffic exchanges.  A traffic exchange it’s a place where people visit the websites of other members and in return receive visits to their own web site from those other members.  Every time a member visits someone else’s website they are given a credit.  These credits can be used to get visits back to their own website or to have their banner shown to other members.  This form of advertising uses banners very effectively and oftentimes achieves click through rates of 20% or higher.

With the ever-changing face of the Internet, it is often difficult to keep up with the times.  Many marketing methods are constantly changing, but there is a good chance that banner advertising will remain, at least, mostly cost effective for years to come. That is assuming that you use them correctly and advertise to the right people.
